American Idol History & Info
HISTORY
American Idol is an annual reality-competition show airing on Fox in the United States and Canada. It first aired on Fox Television on June 11, 2002 and has since become one of the most watched programs in the history of American television. Idol originated from a British reality show Pop Idol, created by British media mogul Simon Fuller. It first broadcast in England in 2001. The programs basis is to seek out new singing talents in their respective countries by hosting a series of nationwide auditions. The results of the public auditions courses are determined by the viewers via telephone voting. The shows format showcases three judges who provide often hilarious and insulting criticisms of the contestants' performances: American Idol since it's North American debut has featured; record producer Randy Jackson, pop singer and choreographer
Paula Abdul and hard to please music executive Simon Cowell. Many people
forget that the first season of American Idol had two host presenters, Brian
Dunkelman and Ryan Seacrest. After Idol's 2002 season ended, Brian decided to leave the show to peruse an acting and comedy career. The American Idol band is led by Rickey Minor. The show airs on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in the United States, Canada, Thursday and Friday nights in the U.K. (two days after the North American airing). In it;s seven successful seasons, its winners cuts been Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks and David Cook. The Runners-up cuts been Justin Guarini, Clay Aiken, Diana DeGarmo, Bo Bice, Katharine McPhee, Blake Lewis, and David Archuleta.
